What is Share in the Surplus?

Share in the Surplus is a local grass roots community food share initiative that everyone can take part in.

Have you been ambitious in the spring and started your garden only to find that summer became busy, the food became bountiful and you had too much Zuchinni?  Are you “that” neighbour that sneaks your squash on to the door step of an unsuspecting friend who you know does not want one more of your overgrown courgettes?

In all seriousness, there can be circumstances throughout the season where you have too much produce or do not have the time to process and preserve them. Instead of sending your extras over to your compost, we are asking you to join our movement and Share in the Surplus.

How Do You  Get Involved?

1_edited.jpg

Find an accessible location in your yard.

2_edited.jpg

Set up a little free food stand.

3_edited.jpg

Add a food basket.

4_edited.jpg

Share in the Surplus by placing your extra harvest in the basket for community members to access as they walk by.

Be sure to check your surplus basket regularly! If no neighbours are interested in your bounty you may need to rush across the street and leave it for your unsuspecting friend when they are not watching, or continue to build that compost you are working on.
